A Season of Shakespeare on Broadway
The works of William Shakespeare have taken their place on several broadway stages. Right now, you can catch MACBETH, starring Ethan Hawke, at Lincoln Center, or Julie Taymor’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, or The Globe’s imported production of TWELFTH NIGHT and RICHARD III starring the remarkable Mark Rylance all in one weekend. This resurgence of Shakespeare on Broadway is an amazing testament to the relevance and impact that Shakespeare has on today’s audience. Looks like it might be time for a winter trip to NYC to catch some of these shows and learn from the best![/caption]
For now, I will settle for reading the many interviews and articles related to Shakespeare’s recent dominance on the NYC theatre scene. Click HERE for a wonderful NY Times interview with Mark Ryalnce on “What makes a great Shakespearean”.
