Youth Theatre
Building on the strong foundation of our summer theatre program for youth, Camp Will, and our educational programs such as Shakespeare in the Schools, and Shake it Up Saturday, Door Shakespeare is proud to have presented our first youth production: Something’s Rotten in the State of Denmark by Joseph Wallace (and William Shakespeare), in December of 2019.
About the play…
At the dress rehearsal for Hamlet, young Tom is utterly exhausted from playing the title character. He closes his eyes for just a minute and opens the audiences’ to a version of the Bard’s masterpiece never before imagined. Uncle Claudius can’t seem to remember anyone’s name and Hamlet’s father’s ghost exhibits multiple personalities reminiscent of other famous literary phantoms. From the mysterious council of rabbits to Hamlet covering up Polonius’ death with ventriloquism, this comedy is sure to be a hit with the whole family!
The cast of Something’s Rotten in the State of Denmark was made up of students, age 8-17, from across Door County. If you have a student actor in your family, email info@doorshakespeare.com or call 920.854.7111 for more information about Door Shakespeare’s educational theatre programs.
