GUIDANCE
The costume and wardrobe intern reports to Door Shakespeare’s Producing Artistic Director and the Björklunden Operations Manager with additional guidance from Door Shakespeare’s Costume Designer and Stage Management team.
THE WORKPLACE
Door Shakespeare performs outdoors on a wooden stage set among trees about 200 yards from Lake Michigan at Björklunden in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. Workdays typically involve outdoor rehearsal, performance, and setup in fluctuating temperatures and weather conditions.
The dressing room and costume shop are located 200 yards from the stage and include a bathroom, shower, refrigerator, drinking water, coffee maker, and laundry facilities. Mobile drinking stations are placed throughout the backstage area. Portapotties are available at the performance venue. Paths vary—gravel, wood chips, tarmac, grass, and occasional tree roots. A nearby field offers space for play during breaks. Lake Michigan lies just beyond.
The Björklunden Lodge is located on Lake Michigan and features a great room, three seminar rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, and 22 guest rooms. There are two lakeside decks, a second-story observation deck, an elevator, and a computer lab.
The company is committed to safety and accessibility for all members. Please contact the Producing Artistic Director with information regarding any accommodations needed in the workplace.
Door Shakespeare is a COVID-19 vaccinated workplace.
HOUSING
Dormitory-style housing is provided in the Björklunden Lodge. Each dorm room accommodates up to 5 students with a shared bathroom, kitchen, and common area. The Björklunden Lodge is a two-story, 37,000-square-foot facility containing a great room, three seminar rooms, a dining room, and a kitchen. Wireless Internet is throughout.
TRANSPORTATION
While Door County is a tourist destination known for its natural beauty, it does not have public transportation. During the 2026 season, interns may use the Björklunden van to travel throughout Door County. However, they will need to arrange their own transportation to and from Door County. Björklunden is two miles outside of the town of Bailey Harbor, which has a convenience store, restaurants, coffee shops, and a few retail stores. Students who are looking for a quiet summer have in the past been happy with a bike.
