Camp Will Registration is Open

Amy Ensign News

Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin — Door Shakespeare is accepting registrations for their summer theatre program for youth, Camp Will. Three sessions are available: July 17-21, July 31- August 4, and August 14-18. Camp Will meets Monday through Friday from 10-12:30, and Friday from 6:00 to 7:00.

Camp Will is a weeklong workshop dedicated to the development of communication skills, language, and group social skills through the process of creative play and group scene work. Camp Will’s goal is to nurture a young person’s ability to voice their opinions, communicate their thoughts, and discover their creativity through ensemble work and the poetry of Shakespeare.

Each day begins with theater games and warm-up activities. Groups are then divided by age and experience. Younger students approach Shakespeare’s words through rhythm, playful language exercises, and story drama. Older students work on vocal and physical techniques that enrich the meaning of Shakespeare’s text. All sessions are outdoors on the grounds of Door Shakespeare’s Theater at Björklunden, and each session is taught by professional actors from the Door Shakespeare acting company. Campers conclude their week at Camp Will by sharing scene work on the Door Shakespeare stage and then watching their instructors perform on the same stage in The Old Man and The Old Moon, with book, music, and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Company.

“We have a very talented group of teaching artists with a wide range of skills,” shares Door Shakespeare Producing Artistic Director Amy Ensign. “Whether the young actor in your life wants to wield a sword, sing a song, be a king, queen, fairy, or clown, they’ll find their voice right here at Camp Will.”

Door Shakespeare’s Artistic Associate and Camp Will Director Scott McKenna Campbell leads a team of four professional teaching Artists: Jonathan Contreras, Isa Guitian, Isaiah Spetz, and Gabriel Smith.

Camp Will is sponsored by the Door County Medical Center and Werner Krause.
