Spend a Day at Björklunden Celebrating the Arts on August 7th!
Björklunden is teaming up with the Door County Jazz Festival and Door Shakespeare to present a full afternoon and evening of Arts programming including Live Jazz music, food trucks and theater. Join us from 4-6 pm for a free concert at Vail Hall featuring a Door County Jazz Festival Performance. Stay for dinner as we have food truck providing , followed by Door Shakespeare’s must-see performance of the classic Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations including a preshow visit by the author.
With this event, Lawrence University initiates a yearlong celebration of 50 years of stewardship of its beloved northern campus, Björklunden. Fifty years ago, this marvelous property officially changed hands from remarkable donors Donald and Winifred Boynton to Lawrence University. The Björklunden 50th is an opportunity to honor this unique place of learning, reflection, and community engagement through programming that showcases Lawrence’s mission, values, and enduring commitment to the arts, environmental sustainability, and lifelong learning.

Door County Jazz Festival – Free performance 4-6 pm
The inaugural Door County Jazz Festival presents the “Luedtke, López, and Fernandez Guitar Trio” (sponsored by the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music). The Luedke, López and Fernandez Guitar Trio features Cooper Luedke on bass, Josué Ríos López on guitar and Quintin Fernandez on drums. All three studied at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, which has just celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding.

After the August 7 Door County Jazz Festival concert, walk over to the Garden for a chat with Great Expectations author Gale Childs Daly from 6-7. Then enjoy her work on the Door Shakespeare stage at 7:30.
Great Expectations at 7:30 p.m.
Pip, a young orphan living in the marshlands of Kent, is raised by his stern sister and her kind-hearted husband Joe, the village blacksmith.
